The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 我们虽已见惯了生活中的「恶」，但当所有你认为的正义，都变身为「恶」，并叠加在一起排山倒海般袭来时，我们会依然不寒而栗且毛骨悚然。四位参与霸凌的少年父母，分别代表着医疗、警署、律政与教育的强权，这是何等用心又何等讽刺。少年们诚然可恶，但与其「上流阶级」父母们的自私、残忍与贪婪相比，他们显然更值得被原谅。之于案件本身，发人深省，但电影对于细节处理却潦草甚至降智。最后的为反转而反转真没必要，更没价值。
精彩的的推理电影，不懂古董但是受益匪浅，运用了很多元素来解密，从摩斯密码到十二地支再到围棋，更巧的是其中回到原点的构思。这个原点不是原地，而是螺旋而上的原点，需要经过漫长时间的证明，需要三代人的努力。许愿这个角色演得非常活生生，可以看出雷佳音从年初小说家里的执着寻女之父，再到这部为寻找佛头真相而舍命的角色都下了很大功夫。药不然也是很妙的一个选角，隐忍负重，游走于五脉与老朝奉之间，是天才，也是权谋者，李现戴眼镜开始鉴宝的那瞬间感觉就很对。辛芷蕾是美的，不是花瓶那种，带有质感，没有黄烟烟的步步协助，许愿走不到最后。葛优饰演的角色付贵，不知道是巧合还是致敬以往角色，垫起整部电影的承转合。而且葛大爷一出场，全场笑翻，专为欢乐气氛而生的葛优啊！虽然最后有遗憾，但不负许和平重托。放在春节档应该很能打！
优缺点都很明显，算是一部还算合格的大爽片，卡司阵容不错，一开始的鉴宝竞技，后期的一些悬疑设置与解谜，咏梅也是意外之喜，所以可以带来一些尚可的娱乐和观赏体验。但是剧情的逻辑漏洞也非常明显，明显到让人困惑，例如没有交代清楚许和平在儿子7岁就离开后，许愿是怎么成为古董专家的，也没有交代清楚烟烟为啥要和爷爷作对，以及药不然怎么就突然要抢班夺权了。另外雷佳音维持了和刺杀小说家几乎一样的人设，感觉直接从一个片场走到了另外一个片场，这会有显著的审美疲劳。以及塌楼的特效有点假，反派竟然不主动逃离求生而是执着于杀主角也非常不合理。所以这部电影还会有续集吗？
影片最后的反转更是触目惊心！当老戏骨薛景求将最后的唯一的证据——无人机及其存储卡奋力扔下悬崖扔向大海时，观众连同这位父亲内心的悲凉和绝望都被拉扯到了极致！和国产同类型题材电影温馨和解的happy ending所不同的是，那将是你永远也不可能在国内影院大银幕上所能看到的极具社会现实意义的震憾而残忍的镜头！
反转再反转让故事背后的力量大打折扣，最后的那次反转其实没必要。赤裸裸地展现了人性的恶，就是过程没什么逻辑性
情感细腻真挚，剧情比较一般
总体看算是挺成熟的类型片，作为看过原著小说的人也能大体上满意改编。

密室主题：真假明堂佛头 不过应该没哪家密室敢设摩斯电码吧不然客人要狂卡bug了ps看到一半觉得主角们也太厉害了一掏一个佛头着实比我吃过的红烧狮子头还多
所有人物动机都不清不楚。许愿做的一切是为了坐实他家是汉奸的事实吗？
而主创们对这一问题采取了只陈述不解释的态度，也不知是根本没意识到问题的严重性，还是心有余悸不便明说。
五星不是说此片多高明，但是我吃西瓜吃得嘴巴里咸咸的。
本来一直觉得就那样吧，直到最后女主把李芯悦交给别人的时候，真的有一点鼻酸。把自己心爱的人递到了别人的手里🥲
最开始看了14min因为觉得演技有些许尴尬就没看了 今天又接着看后面的剧情 实在是没办法理解 双方被请家长而且父母都那么开明（是我羡慕不来的 btw两个老爸说试过男人就不回不去了真的傻逼😅这种发言真的会想吐 ）的情况下为什么要选择分手 后来提出复合又说30岁都还是单身就结婚 什么破烂剧情啊 我简直无法理解！！（但还是不妨碍我伤心得泪流满面😅我也想和我女朋友一起看蓝宇）
影片很想从剧情多次反转、对校园暴力的抨击、讽刺玩弄权力的人等几个角度多重展现，但力度都不够，还不如老老实实选其中一个角度并加强，就不会除了演技毫无回响

有佳句而无佳章，每一段都欠了好几口气。为了篇幅还是其他原因，人物关系改到姥姥都不认识。选角比剧版差太多，就奇怪啊大头李现两个我觉得不错的演员完全没火花。但编剧也有锅，还是人物关系姥姥都不认识。郑国渠小哥是个惊喜，一查还是驴得水小铜匠。
只想要那几个孩子自己他们的父母去死，这什么东西啊，没有良心斯密达。助纣为虐！
