The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 配乐依然不错，剧本电视剧化，很像低一档的sex education跟shameless，青春爱情片中间杂糅着不怎么好看的明星，竞选戏。PTA可能不想再拍神经的纯爱戏，现实可能也确实是更好的受阻才会回头将就在一起，但是起起落落的故事设计真是不好看，感情线也没有跟着起伏发展。
好喜欢PTA不紧不慢塑造人物的感觉啊 而且能游刃有余处理复杂的文本（Ben Safdie好会演哦哈哈
别吹了别吹了，这不是编剧吃设定这是什么，还有这不是小马三个种族的歧视和纷争，这压根就是三个村子过家家吧，别提什么这是离G4一千多年后的故事了，我寻思星璇还是神话呢怎么G4还保存着他们的思想 小马宝莉庞大的世界观到大电影上居然就讲这三个种族😓
多次奔跑行走的镜头暗示着男女主的感情的分分合合，儿女情长就是一场又一场你追我赶的捉迷藏游戏。
PTA 的血色將至、大師曾令我歎為觀止，也私心偏愛私戀失調、乃至“混亂”的性本惡看著也很爽。甘草披薩節奏感舒服，不複雜的故事，不典型的人，但整個沉醉無法自拔的時代濾鏡，就很無聊。讓我很難不換一個視角揣測，如果我是一個洛杉磯美國人我會不會像討厭《芳華》一樣，討厭甘草披薩。

本以为是个年轻人恋爱片，结果居然这么好玩，简直是七十年代好莱坞缩影在个人上的体现。女主一家居然演员是真的一家子，男主也是星二代啊。这部电影并不是什么男权女权亚裔歧视讨论片好吗？它就是以小见大真实反映了七几年时LA乃至整个美国的真实情况而已。影片页面那些短评都是什么啊？！怒而五星（其实4.5）。不过，连贵ban死活都不care了，的确也不应该再care什么陌生人的短评了。
明亮当中有一丝孱弱，纯真里又带着猥琐，整个就是怪鸡到不行，后半程终于松快了起来，可能是作为观众慢慢接受了这个creepy的视角（？），好几场戏的调度都可圈可点，利落准确，还有就是音乐太好听，无论是影像或声音，复古都是大势啊，接下来会循环原声碟一百遍。
不烂，却也不算精彩。

当pta拍了一部看似挺有趣且门槛不怎么高的片子，而我却几乎无法在主角成长亦或是情感变化中找到任何情感共振是挺遗憾的（部分转折有点突兀），后半段也只在欣赏一些光影啊调度啊还有恰到好处的配乐等他的强项，但还是很喜欢
